Patient Support
Client Janssen Cilag Ltd
Project Summary
Two out of three people with cancer suffer from pain. There are a variety of medical and non medical cancer pain treatments available with different effectiveness, treatment burdens and side effect profiles.

Through an educational grant  from Janssen-Cilag Ltd, Cisiv developed a step by step process that gathered basic lifestyle information from patients to produce a printout which they could use in discussions with their doctor.  This included a pain map and information about current and comparative medications.
Brief To design a tool that would give cancer patients information about pain management and provide them with the language and information necessary to discuss pain management with their doctor.
Benefits
  • Gives patients the language and information necessary to discuss pain management options with their doctor.
  • Helps patients make an informed choice about treatment.
  • Captures information which is often difficult to get in consultation.
  • Provides a print-out for discussion with the doctor.
Outcomes The PMA was made available through the Cancerbacup web site.  Cancerbacup is a leading European cancer information charity.
