Project Summary	Two out of three people with cancer suffer from pain. There are a variety of medical and non medical cancer pain treatments available with different effectiveness, treatment burdens and side effect profiles. Through an educational grant from Janssen-Cilag Ltd, Cisiv developed a step by step process that gathered basic lifestyle information from patients to produce a printout which they could use in discussions with their doctor. This included a pain map and information about current and comparative medications.
Brief	To design a tool that would give cancer patients information about pain management and provide them with the language and information necessary to discuss pain management with their doctor.
Benefits	Gives patients the language and information necessary to discuss pain management options with their doctor. Helps patients make an informed choice about treatment. Captures information which is often difficult to get in consultation. Provides a print-out for discussion with the doctor.
Outcomes	The PMA was made available through the Cancerbacup web site. Cancerbacup is a leading European cancer information charity.
