| Project Summary |
Roche Products wanted to educate patients and potential donors about the benefits of renal transplants. Renal transplantation is the most effective treatment for end stage renal failure, but the degree to which patients benefit varies widely, patient expectations and compliance with drug treatment being major factors. With a significant shortfall in the number of cadaveric organs available, Roche saw that one solution to this problem would be to increase the number of living donors. |
| Brief |
To design an interactive computer-based product that would inform renal transplant patients and potential kidney donors. |
| Benefits |
- Unbiased information in a clear format which allows both patients and potential donors to investigate the effects a kidney transplant will have on their life.
- All stages of the transplant explained, from making the decision to the medications and clinic visits following the transplant.
- Information presented in a highly visual format, using animations, diagrams and text.

| Outcomes |
The system was built with an internal audit trail to allow for tracking to see how it was used. Transplant candidates who used the system answered twice as many questions of a simple test correctly as those who had not. |
